THE METAPHYSICS OF INDIGENOUSNESS: A COMPARATIVE PHENOMENOLOGICAL ANALYSIS BASED ON FRANZ FANON

Abstract

The article presents a comparative phenomenological analysis of the metaphysics of whiteness, blackness, and indigeneity, connecting Frantz Fanon’s insights with the historical and existential experience of Amazonian Indigenous peoples, particularly the Paiter Suruí. Whiteness emerges as an invisible and universal norm sustained by claims of neutrality that transform difference into absence. Blackness is framed through epidermal schematism, confining the subject to their skin and restricting their temporality. Indigeneity operates as a mechanism of exclusion that infantilizes and delegitimizes original cosmologies, enabling epistemicide and territorial expropriation. Engaging with Césaire, Kilomba, Mbembe, Dussel, Maldonado-Torres, Ribeiro de Almeida, and Gondim, the article argues that these three devices structure a grammar of the coloniality of the fullness of life-one that exceeds political and economic domains and penetrates the formation of existence itself. Yet phenomenology reveals that negativity is never total. Black and Indigenous practices of resistance-such as orality, songs, living languages, and ancestral memory - produce fissures that unsettle the logic of non-being and generate insurgent possibilities for recomposing being. The analysis of this triad thus illuminates the totalizing drive of the colonial project while opening the horizon for a non-Eurocentric, insurgent humanism grounded in plural struggles and cosmologies.
