Abstract
The main objective of this essay is to explain the functioning of the vagueness of adverbial expressions such as “little”, “more or less”, “very” etc., in their predicative associations. Our explanation will be based on an epistemicist perspective of the vagueness. This perspective assumes that vagueness is, in essence, the ignorance of the exact location of the extensional separations of vague predicates. But, even despite not being able to know a priori where such separations are located, we will see that the epistemicist approach allows us to provide a general framework for the functioning of those expressions in the phenomenon of vagueness.
