Abstract
In this article, we aim to carry out a joint reading of the concept of suicide within pessimistic philosophy, more specifically in the pessimistic philosophies of the German author Philipp Mainländer and the Romanian philosopher Emil Cioran. Each of them offers a different perspective on this idea, so we intend to develop each one separately for better study. The hypothesis presented is that, in Cioran, this concept functions as a postponement, whereas for the German philosopher it constitutes an imperative given by God Himself. By placing both works in dialogue, we will arrive at a conclusion that enriches the proposed debate.
