Resumo
This article discusses the scientific production of Portugal from 1945 onwards, comparing the decades 1980/90 and 2005/15. During these two decades, the public production of the internationally recognized country increased 35 times in 2016, with patents registered 45 times. This is a result of public policies aimed at the development of S&T, of academia and business partnerships, and of personnel qualification, driven by membership in the European Union.
Between 2005/15 the areas that published the most were: Biochemistry & Molecular Biology; Chemistry, Physical; Astronomy & Astrophysics; Material Science Multidisciplinary and Genetics & Heredity.
