Abstract

Carbonation is one of the most studied pathological manifestations because it is one of those responsible for the deterioration of reinforced concrete structures, compromising their durability, safety, and service life. There are some techniques for protection and/or recovery of this anomaly, such as electrochemical re-alkalinization, barrier protection, inhibition protection and cathodic protection. This work aims to present, through a literature review, a comparison between these techniques focusing on sustainability, durability, maintainability, cost, and restriction of each method. As a result, it is expected that this work will help in the choice of the repair/protection technique to be used, since the choice of the recovery or protection technique must be made according to the environment to which the structure is exposed, the cost and the longevity that the technique will provide. Therefore, these indicators are considered in this work to assist professionals.
