Abstract

In recent years, the capture and monitoring of ECG signals have been widely employed in the field of cardiological medicine. ECG signals are capable of providing essential informationabout patients’ cardiac activity, enabling their analysis to be used as an auxiliary tool in medical diagnosis. This study proposes the development and implementation of a low-cost mobile IoT system, focused on the acquisition, processing, cloud storage, and remote monitoring of ECG signals. In this system, the ECG signal is captured and prepared by a biosensor connected to an Arduino UNO R3. Subsequently, the acquired signal is transmitted to a web application developed and hosted with the aid of MATLAB DesignerTM and MATLAB Web App ServerTM tools. The interaction between the web application and the hardware part of the system can be established in three different ways: through serial communication, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. Theoperatio nal tests of all components of the proposed system were conducted on patients at the Walter Cantídio University Hospital of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). Fifty records of 5 (five) minutes each were acquired at a sampling rate of 256 Hz. The performance results of the web application were satisfactory, with an average time of only 1.7830 s and a standard deviation of 0.0737 s to perform the DFT calculation, apply a multi-level wavelet decomposition to a 7 (seven)-second buffer, create a new signal based on the desired frequency components, and display the results graphically. Remote monitoring and cloud storage of the cardiographic records were successfully completed
