Abstract

The use of vertical connection module (VCM) has been the most conventional solutionfor direct lay-away connection between flowlines and subsea equipment offshore Brazil.A comprehensive study of the forces and moments exerted onto its gooseneck during the mostcritical phases of the connection is carried out herein, aiming at understanding their magnitudeand sensibility to parameters such as pipe’s bending stiffness. Finite-element techniques areemployed in a quasi-static model comprising VCM and its rigid gooseneck, end-fitting, bendrestrictor, flexible pipe and winch cables.
