Abstract

Using Building Information Modeling (BIM) during the life cycle of a project provides many advantages. The recent implementation of the Estratégia BIM BR (Estratégia Nacional de Disseminação do Building Information Modeling, translating to National Building Information Modeling Dissemination Strategy) imposes a series of condition for the execution of public work, including the adoption of BIM. Therefore, the demand for qualified professionals gains impulse. For this reason, students at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) with the guidance of a professor begin to create a critical view of BIM and, consequently, an interest in its learning and implementation in future professional activities. In this context, a research was done based on samples of Civil Engineering Projetos Pedagógicos de Curso (PPC), which means pedagogical course projects, showed that BIM’s implementation in graduate courses in Brazil still occurs slowly, which can be seen by the absence of the subject in the program of the disciplines of the consulted courses. Given this scenario, an explored alternative at UFJF by students has been the development of the flexibility of curricular activities, promoted in different instances of the course, including the Programa de Educação Tutorial (PET), the Liga Acadêmica de Building Information Modeling (LABIM), - translating literally to tutorial education program and academic league of Building Information Modeling, respectively - Research Initiation (IC) and Professional Training (TP). The work presents how the students' participation in these activities involving BIM is important for a holistic training, to prepare themselves for the needs imposed by the current job market and a broad vision around the concepts and applications of BIM in Civil Engineering.
