Lex Humana & XIX Luso-Brazilian Meeting of Labor Law Jurists – JUTRA

We are pleased to announce the XIX Luso-Brazilian Meeting of Labor Law Jurists – JUTRA, which will take place on April 10-11, 2025, at the Catholic University of Petrópolis (UCP), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The event will bring together renowned jurists, academics, and labor law professionals from Brazil and Portugal, under the central theme:

“Labor Law Jurists: Nevertheless, We Are Still Here”

As part of the event's activities, we invite researchers to submit original academic papers for oral and in-person presentation. Approved papers will be presented on April 11, 2025, and the best articles may be selected for publication in the 2025 edition of the Lex Humana Journal, provided they meet the journal's editorial guidelines.

To participate, submissions must be sent by March 23, 2025, following the guidelines detailed in the event’s official call for papers.

Important: The Lex Humana Journal only publishes articles with at least one author or co-author holding a PhD. Those interested in publication must submit their articles directly through the journal's website (access here), using the official template and indicating in the "Comments for the Editor" section that the article was approved and presented at the XIX JUTRA.

Title of the Dossier:
Neuroethics, Criminal Behavior, and the Law: Philosophical and Legal Perspectives on Moral Decision-Making

Justification and Objectives:

This dossier aims to explore the intersection of neuroethics, criminal behavior, and legal theory, shedding light on the neurocognitive processes underlying moral decision-making and deviant conduct. By integrating insights from cognitive neuroscience, philosophy, and law, the dossier will examine the implications of neurobiological factors in criminal responsibility, punishment, and rehabilitation. Special emphasis will be given to the philosophical and legal challenges posed by emerging neuroscientific findings in criminal justice, including discussions on free will, moral agency, and the limits of legal culpability.

Suggested Subtopics:

Neurocognitive Foundations of Criminal Behavior: Examination of neurological and psychological determinants of criminal conduct, including the role of trauma, impulse control, and cognitive deficits.
Moral Reasoning, Free Will, and Legal Responsibility: Philosophical and legal analyses of moral decision-making, questioning how cognitive neuroscience challenges traditional notions of accountability and intentionality in crime.
Aggression, Violence, and Neurolaw: Exploration of the neuroscientific bases of aggression, antisocial behavior, and their legal and ethical implications in criminal sentencing and rehabilitation.
Ethical and Legal Dilemmas in the Application of Neuroscience to Law: Discussion of how emerging neuroscientific technologies, such as brain imaging and neurostimulation, influence criminal justice policies and human rights.

We are pleased to invite submissions for the final issue of 2024 (Issue 4) of Lex Humana, a peer-reviewed journal in the field of legal sciences and related disciplines. We welcome high-quality research articles, theoretical and empirical studies, as well as review papers that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the areas of law, legal theory, and interdisciplinary studies involving legal topics.

Lex Humana was recently rated as a B1 journal by CAPES in its latest four-year evaluation and is indexed in both national and international databases. For a complete list of indexing, please visit our indexation page.

To streamline the submission process, we strongly recommend that authors use the official template, which is available here. This template is designed to ensure consistency and adherence to the journal’s formatting guidelines.

Conforme resultado oficial do Qualis Periódicos 2017-2020 da CAPES, a Lex Humana recebeu a nota B1, alcançando sua melhor nota desde sua criação em 2009.

É ainda um marco na história da Lex Humana que passou da nota "C" atribuída pela área de Direito na quadrienal 2013-2016 para "B1" no atual modelo do Qualis único.

Agradecemos aos que colaboraram e colaboram como conselheiros, pareceristas, autores e leitores da Lex Humana.
